Royboys
13 March 1987 – 11 April 1987 Studio Theatre
Playbox Theatre Company,
Theatre - Spoken Word Comedy
Follows the fantastic footballing fortunes of the battling Noble family. Like the club they worship, the struggling Nobles have no real home, not much money, but lots of heart. Their one ambition in life is to have a Royboy of their own. Instead they have a daughter who in the beginning hates football but finally goes on to become the first ever Roygirl.
From the press release:
"Royboys is about courage, determination, the love of the old Australia and the chewed up plastic footy the dog had a go at but still couldn't destroy!
"Although Royboys is about the fate of the Fitzroy Football Club, it is also about the fate of Australia. Old Australia versus New Australia. It chronicles the demise of Old Australia, but still offers hope that some of the old values - like compassion and loyalty - will always prevail."
