Production still for "The World is Made of Glass". Tim Robertson as Carl Jung. Photographer: Chooi Tan
The World is Made of Glass
Adaptation of Morris West's book, adapted and directed by the author.
From the press release:
"The story centres on a brief encounter between Magda Kardoss Von Gansfield, the amoral product of a decadent upbringing, and Carl Gustav Jung, a pioneer of modern psychiatry and estranged colleague of Freud, now entangled in a menage-a-trois with his pregnant wife Emma and Toni Wolff, his assistant and mistress. Jung is in the early stages of his own breakdown when the extraordinary woman, Magda, comes to him in a desperate attempt to find absolution from a past that threatens to engulf her. Set in 1913, this rich drama reflects the emotional and erotic extravagances of the Belle Epoque.
"Described as a story of love, sexual obsession, murder and guilt, it makes an ideal subject for theatre, interpreting two worlds at once, the dream world of two powerful psyches and the visible arena of their daily lives."
This production was also part of the Adelaide Festival in March, 1984.
