Born on Yidinji country (Cairns), Laila Thaker is a fearless Torres Strait Islander (Meriam/Badulaig woman) on her mother's side, and Indian (Singaporean) on her father's side. Since graduating with a BA Theatre/Creative Industries (JCU Cairns, 2009) and Cert IV Film and Television (The Actor's Workshop Brisbane, 2013), she has been cast in various roles from Shakespeare to Sarah Kane. Most notably, Five Bedrooms (Paramount), Wentworth (Foxtel), Informer 3838 (Nine Network), My Life Is Murder (Channel Ten), Bad Mothers (Nine Network) and House Husbands (Nine Network). Her role in Prayers To Broken Stone (Boutique Theatre) won her Best Emerging Indigenous Artist for the Melbourne Fringe Awards 2017.
