The Proscenium

By Margaret Cameron

28 September 2005 – 09 October 2005 Tower Theatre

Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne Fringe Festival,

New Writing Theatre World Premiere

The Proscenium is a meditation on an interior landscape of memory, desire and the watchful gaze of childhood. Here the imagination itself is a theatre and thinking is a kind of performance. Cameron, who has a long and rich history as a theatremaker including the landmark works Things Calypso Wanted to Say! and Knowledge and Melancholy, continues her explorations of the solo female performer in this strikingly personal yet engaging work, an impression reinforced by the astounding mix of vulnerability and forceful presence that she achieves.
