After a 'try out' season in Sydney Hate comes to Melbourne. Unusually small-scale, highly concentrated family drama by Stephen Sewell, showing the effects of political and patriarchal power on the family but also on the body politic. Very spare, stylised production but acted in highly realistic style.
It begins with a confession of murder and takes us into the comic and painful world of members of a leading Australian family as they gather a their country estate to celebrate what will be their last Easter together.
In Sydney, the production was presented at Belvoir Street Theatre (19 November - 22 December).
