The Father We Loved On a Beach By the Sea

31 August 1983 – 18 September 1983 Universal Theatre

Playbox Theatre Company,

Theatre - Spoken Word Drama

A study of an ordinary family caught up by the sudden depression of the late 50s, and of the effects of that experience upon the children. Playwright Stephen Sewell commented that he wrote it "in an attempt to understand a few things: how workers can be anything but revolutionary under a capitalist system; how pain and misery can be turned into a way of life vigorously defended by its victims; and what relationship exists between those most intimate moments of our lives...and the broader political and economic forces allegedly restricted to the public arena".
