Devised by director Murray Copland, "The Virgin" was a compilation of English mediaeval mystery plays of the Chester, Wakefield and York cycles, from the Ludus Coventriae, and from the Coventry Shearmen and Tailors' Play, woven together to create a continuous narrative. Mary was played by Margaret Cameron, while the rest of the cast took on various roles.
