Savanna Wegman (she/they) is a designer and writer working across theatre, opera, dance and circus. She was born in Aotearoa New Zealand and is of Chinese Malaysian and Dutch descent.
For Malthouse Theatre, she was the set designer for PRIDE & PREJUDICE. Other theatre credits include Set & Costume for CONVERTED! (ATYP/Sydney Festival); OUR MONSTER’S NAME IS JERRY (Dirty Pennies Theatre); THE LAST TRAIN TO MADELINE, CLIMBERS and BRITTANY AND THE MANNEQUINS (Fever103 Theatre) and STAUNCH ASF (Melbourne Fringe); Set for A CERTAIN MUMBLE (Darebin Arts Speakeasy); and Associate Designer for THE DREAM LABORATORY (Essential Theatre); MY BRILLIANT CAREER and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (Melbourne Theatre Company); THE MERMAID (La Mama); FAR AWAY (Patalog Theatre) and THE CROCODILE (Spinning Plates Co.). Her opera credits include Set & Costume for KATYA KABANOVA (Victorian Opera) and BIOGRAPHICA (Lyric Opera/Theatre Works); and associate designer for CANDIDE (Victorian Opera).
Savanna has been nominated for five Green Room Awards including Outstanding Set Design in Independent Theatre and Outstanding Design in an Opera.
Savanna was part of the inaugural cohort of Melbourne Theatre Company’s Future Creatives program, supporting emerging designers.
